Which plastic should you buy for your project?
Plastic here means solid stock you cut, heat, or machine yourself, not the epoxy and resin you pour. Match the material to the job. Cast acrylic (plexiglass) laser-cuts with flame-polished edges and suits signs, keychain blanks, and earring shapes; extruded acrylic costs less but chips when engraved. HDPE and UHMW machine cleanly into cutting boards, jigs, and outdoor parts. Kydex and ABS sheet thermoform over molds for holsters, sheaths, and cosplay armor. PETG and polycarbonate bend without cracking for guards and face shields. Check the listing for thickness (1/16" to 1/2" is common), sheet size, and finish, plus whether the protective masking is still on, since pre-masked sheet survives laser and CNC work far better. Color matters too: clear, frosted, mirror, glitter, and two-color engraving stock all behave differently. Small offcut and blank packs run $6-$20, mid-size sheets $20-$60, and large panels or bulk Kydex $60-$120. Most stock ships in 3-7 business days; custom-cut sizes can take 1-2 weeks.
