What are metal stampings, and how do you pick them?
Stampings are thin sheet-metal shapes pressed from a die: filigree wraps, leaves, flowers, butterflies, scrollwork panels, and embossed charms a maker solders, glues, or links into jewelry. Don't confuse them with hand-stamping blanks (flat discs you punch letters into) — stampings already carry the design. Raw brass is the workhorse and the most common color, with antiqued brass, copper, and silver-tone options for vintage, steampunk, and boho work. Check thickness (gauge), whether holes are pre-drilled or solid, and if pieces are flat or domed, since domed filigree wraps around cabochons and beads. Pack counts swing from a few large focal pieces to 50-piece embellishment lots, so read quantity carefully. Price bands: raw-brass multipacks $5-$15, antiqued or plated assortments $10-$30, larger focal or sterling-look pieces $20-$60. Most stocked stampings ship in 3-7 business days; oxidized or made-to-order finishes run 1-2 weeks.
