What should you look for in an original ink painting?
Ink work splits into a few distinct looks, so name the one you want before you buy. Sumi-e and East Asian ink wash use diluted black ink and a soft brush for atmospheric landscapes, bamboo, and koi, usually on rice or mulberry paper. Brush-and-ink and India-ink pieces read crisp and graphic, with bold black line work on heavy cotton paper. Alcohol-ink abstracts are the colorful exception: translucent dye flooded across Yupo, a slick synthetic paper, for marbled blooms. Read the listing for the support, since rice paper is delicate and Yupo can't be reworked once dry. Check whether the ink is archival or pigment-based, as cheap dye inks fade in sunlight. Most originals ship unframed; frame works on paper under glass or UV acrylic against light and humidity. Small studies run $25-$90, signed mid-size pieces $90-$300, and large scrolls or framed work $300-$800+. Ready pieces ship in 3-7 business days; commissions take 1-3 weeks. Ink suits minimalist, zen, and Japandi rooms and makes a thoughtful housewarming, wedding, or new-baby gift.
