What should you check before buying a digital illustration?
Digital illustration is drawn on a tablet, so the look is yours to direct: clean cartoon and caricature, anime, semi-realistic, flat vector, pop-art, or a painterly watercolor effect. The trade-off is what you actually receive. Most listings deliver a download — a high-resolution PNG or JPG plus a print-ready PDF — and you handle printing and framing; others ship a printed-and-framed piece for more. Before ordering, confirm the file resolution. Ask for at least 300 DPI at your intended print size so an 8x10, 11x14, or 16x20 stays sharp; a screen-only file (72 DPI) will pixelate on paper. Note hair and eye color, outfits, pets, and any names or dates the photo can't show. A single-subject digital portrait usually runs $25-$120; each added person or pet adds $15-$50, and full backgrounds cost more. Files commonly arrive in 1-5 business days with one or two revision rounds, far faster than hand-drawn originals. Order a week ahead for birthdays, weddings, and Mother's or Father's Day.
