Question 1

How do I find the right ring size for a gift?

Accepted Answer

Borrow a ring the recipient already wears on the intended finger and match its inner diameter, or use a maker's free printable ring sizer. Most handmade rings follow standard US sizing (commonly 4-10). If you can't ask directly, a midi or adjustable band sidesteps the guesswork, and many makers offer one free resize within a set window.

Question 2

What's the price difference between sterling silver and gold rings?

Accepted Answer

Sterling silver handmade rings typically run $25-$90, which is why they dominate stacking sets and signet styles. The same design in 14k solid gold or rose gold usually costs $250-$900+ because gold is far pricier by weight and won't tarnish. Gold-filled and gold-vermeil rings sit in between, offering a gold look at a lower price point.

Question 3

Which ring style makes the best personalized gift?

Accepted Answer

Signet rings suit an engraved initial, monogram or crest; name rings spell out a word in script; birthstone rings mark a birth month or family; stacking bands let you build a set over time. For a calming everyday piece, spinner (fidget) rings have a movable outer band. Match the style to how the wearer dresses and which finger they favor.

Question 4

How long do custom and engraved rings take to ship?

Accepted Answer

In-stock bands often ship in 3-7 business days. Personalized work — hand engraving, name cut-outs, birthstone setting or a made-to-size band — typically adds 1-3 weeks, and some studios quote 4-8 weeks for fully bespoke pieces. Order at least a month ahead of a birthday, anniversary or holiday, since peak seasons stretch maker lead times.

Question 5

Are the birthstones in handmade rings real?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the listing. Makers use both genuine gemstones (natural or lab-grown) and simulated stones like cubic zirconia or glass; genuine stones cost more and are noted in the description. A handmade birthstone ring can usually hold one to five stones, so check the listing for stone type, carat or millimeter size, and how many birthdays it can represent.

Question 6

What should I look for in a quality handmade ring?

Accepted Answer

Check the metal stamp (925 for sterling silver, 14k for solid gold), the band width and gauge, and whether engraving is hand-cut or machine-done. Read the maker's notes on tarnish, resizing and care. For everyday wear, solid metals and secure stone settings last longest; thin stacking bands are lighter and meant to be layered rather than worn alone.
