Carving block or mounting block: which do you need?
Two different tools share the name. Carving blocks are soft, eraser-like rubber or vinyl (Speedy-Carve, MOO Carve, pink rubber sheets) that you cut your own design into with a linocut gouge; common sizes run 2x3 in, 4x6 in, and 6x12 in sheets, usually $4-$18. Mounting blocks are the rigid base that gives a carved or clear stamp a handle: clear acrylic blocks (great for see-through placement with photopolymer cling stamps) and traditional hardwood blocks with a cushion layer, typically $5-$25 depending on size and set count. For carving blocks, look for a listing that names the durometer or firmness; for acrylic mounts, check for a grid or gripped surface. Many makers ship blank stock or pre-cut blocks in 3-7 business days, while custom-engraved wood handles or bulk classroom packs often run 1-2 weeks. Printing on fabric or clay? Confirm the block is solvent-safe before you buy.
Use the filters to sort by block type (carving vs. acrylic vs. wood), size, and material, and scan the related searches to jump to gouges, ink pads, or finished cling stamps.
