How do you pick the right paint, ink or dye?
Match the colorant to your surface before anything else. Acrylics and chalk-style paints grip wood, canvas and ceramics; alcohol inks and resin pigments are built for non-porous surfaces like Yupo, tile and epoxy; fiber-reactive and acid dyes bond into cotton, silk and wool. Doing paper crafts? Reach for dye or pigment stamping inks plus embossing powder that heat-sets into a raised, glossy line. Check the lightfastness rating (ASTM I or II) if the finished piece will see daylight, and confirm whether a primer, mordant or fixative is part of the process. Single bottles of alcohol ink, stamping inks and small mica-pigment lots run roughly $6-$25; hand-poured paint sets, dye kits and glaze samplers usually land $20-$80. Most makers ship in-stock colors in 3-7 business days; custom-mixed shades and hand-poured sets often take 1-2 weeks. Order a sample size first so you can test coverage and true color on your own material.
