How do you choose filigree stampings for a project?
Filigrees are thin, pierced metal stampings with lacy openwork, sold flat (to glue or layer) or pre-domed (to wrap around beads and cabochons). Start with the base metal and finish: raw brass and copper take patina and can be soldered; antique silver, antique brass, and gunmetal read as backings behind beads; rose gold and bright silver suit modern jewelry. Match the form to the job — flat connectors and links carry jump rings for bracelets and earrings, bead-cap and wrap styles cradle 8-14mm beads, and large panels back brooches or anchor scrapbook and resin work. Check thickness (0.3-0.8mm bends by hand; thicker holds shape) and whether loops are pre-drilled. Singles run $1-$4, raw-brass assortment packs of 20-50 sit at $6-$20, and sterling or gold-filled pieces climb to $8-$25 each. Most in-stock stampings ship in 2-5 business days; custom-oxidized or hand-cut runs take 1-2 weeks.
