How do you pick the right loofah?
Two different scrubbers share the name. A true loofah is the dried fibrous skeleton of a mature luffa gourd, stiff and plant-based, great for buffing rough elbows, heels, and dry winter skin. A crocheted loofah is bunched cotton or bamboo yarn that whips body wash into soft foam with gentler exfoliation, kinder to faces and sensitive skin. For natural luffa, look at the cut: whole 5-7 inch logs, sliced 1-inch discs for soap-making or facial use, and back scrubbers with a cotton strap. Some makers grow their own gourds and sell unbleached pieces; bleached ones are paler and softer. Soap-saver pouches hold a bar inside the loofah so slivers never go to waste. Natural loofahs usually run $4-$12, multi-packs and sliced discs $10-$20, crocheted ones $6-$15. Most ship in 3-7 business days; personalized sets add about a week. Both compost at the end of life. Rinse, air-dry between uses, and swap a natural loofah every 3-4 weeks.
Filter by material (natural luffa vs. cotton), cut, and exfoliation level, then use related searches to compare loofahs with poufs, sponges, and washcloths.
