Question 1

How do I know a glasses case will fit my frames?

Accepted Answer

Measure your frame's total width arm-to-arm and its folded depth, then compare to the listed interior dimensions, not the photo. Standard adult frames run about 5.5-6 inches wide; oversized sunglasses and wrap styles can reach 6.5 inches and need a wide-mouth or oversized case. Folded depth matters for thick acetate frames. If interior sizes aren't posted, message the maker, since handmade cases vary batch to batch.

Question 2

Hard case or soft pouch for glasses?

Accepted Answer

A hard clamshell with a sprung or magnetic hinge gives the best crush protection and suits glasses tossed into a bag or backpack. Soft felt and leather slip sleeves are lighter, pack flat, and often double as a lens cloth, but they won't stop a sat-on frame. For expensive or polarized lenses, choose a rigid case with a microfiber lining. Many people keep a hard case at home and a slim sleeve for travel.

Question 3

Will the case scratch my lenses?

Accepted Answer

Only if it's unlined or stiff inside. Look for a microfiber, felt, or suede lining and smooth interior seams, which protect anti-glare, blue-light, and polarized coatings that scratch easily. Raw leather edges or exposed stitching inside a case can leave fine marks over time. A soft sleeve in a matching color also works as a cleaning cloth, doubling its use while keeping lenses safe.

Question 4

How much do handmade glasses cases cost?

Accepted Answer

Expect roughly $15-$35 for wool felt, waxed canvas, and cork sleeves, $30-$70 for hand-stitched full-grain or vegetable-tanned leather, and $45-$110 for tooled, riveted, or hardware-heavy clamshell designs. Price tracks material grade and handwork, so a hand-burnished leather case with a brass snap sits at the top. Monogram stamping or engraving usually adds only a few dollars to the base price.

Question 5

Can a glasses case be personalized?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Independent makers commonly add initials, a full name, or a short date by hand-stamping or laser engraving on leather, and by embroidery on felt and canvas. Leather takes a clean debossed monogram; metal-trimmed cases can be engraved on the clasp. Personalized cases typically add 1-2 weeks to shipping, so confirm the font, character limit, and placement, and order custom work ahead of a birthday or holiday.

Question 6

What makes a glasses case a good gift?

Accepted Answer

It fits any eyewear wearer without guessing a prescription, which makes it a safe gift. Match it to habit: a rugged hard clamshell for a commuter, a slim leather sleeve for a reader, or an oversized case for someone with wrap sunglasses. Neutral tan or black leather suits most tastes, and adding their initials turns a practical item into a keepsake. Pair it with a beaded glasses chain for a complete set.
