What makes an art object different from a figurine?
An art object is a non-functional sculptural piece you display for its form, not its use: an abstract knot or curve, a stacked-stone form, a faceted resin block, or an organic ceramic shape that doesn't depict a person or animal and doesn't hold anything. That line separates it from figurines, which represent something, and vessels, which you can fill. Most run 4-12 inches and read best on a mantel, a stacked-book vignette, or open shelving with air around them. Match the material to the room: matte stoneware and travertine for warm, earthy spaces; brushed brass, bronze, or aluminum for a collected modern look; tinted or clear resin for color and light. Price bands are wide. Small ceramic or resin forms often run $25-$80, mid-size cast or stone pieces $80-$250, and one-off or signed studio work $250-$700 and up. Many ready-made pieces ship in 3-7 business days; kiln-fired, cast, or made-to-order forms usually need 1-3 weeks.
