Check stem material too: vulcanite (oxidizes but feels softer in the teeth) versus acrylic (harder, holds shine). Shape names matter to collectors, so learn billiard, bent apple, Dublin, and churchwarden. New corncobs run $10-$25, machine-made briar $40-$120, hand-carved artisan briar $150-$600+, and antique meerschaum or estate pieces vary widely.
